Join Scandia for an informative and proven technique class that will teach you how to add realism to nearly any subject matter using sheets of glass, frit and occasional paints. Using sheet glass and coordinating frit, participants will learn exactly how to create a sense of depth, dimension, and soft-focus realism to your photographs.
Each attendee will create a beginning “still life” portrait of two pears to get the hang of how to use frit shading to transform a 2-D flat glass image into a seemingly 3-D image through the addition of light and shadow.
The second project will entail making a detailed, shaded, and yet free flowing garden project using the same technique.
Scandia has taught this technique numerous times in the US, UK and EU for over a dozen years with consistently solid outcomes from students. Like most techniques Scandia teaches, this is not a one-and-done technique. This approach generally requires 3+ rounds of shading, detailing and firing to achieve the realistic outcome seen in Scandia’s pieces.
No drawing or painting skills are required for this technique, but solid glass cutting skills are extremely helpful as attendees will be required to trace and cut numerous pieces of glass using supplied patterns (as one would do in stained glass). Scandia recommends attendees bring their own favorite set of glass tools, especially their most desired cutter, along with running, nipping & breaking tools. Or, if you prefer, you can use our tools.
All pieces will be fired for attendees to pick up when completed or arrangements can be made with us for return shipping. Please visit Scandia's Instagram page @scandiaglassart or her website: www.ScandiaGlassArt.com to view additional group images from previous workshops.
Photographs here show some of Scandia's techniques that you will learn in this workshop.

Instructor Information: Scandia Wood began her art glass journey learning stained glass in her childhood and continued working with glass as a hobbyist throughout her life as a creative escape in her spare time. As luck would have it, her passion for art glass would eventually lead her to pursue a full-time career working for the art glass manufacturers themselves. In that capacity, she was able to assist in new product development, customer education, marketing efforts, attend industry trade shows, and teach numerous levels of fusing workshops.
Scandia considers herself to be incredibly fortunate that her longtime dance with art glass continues to evolve. She now focuses on creating her glass artwork through her own business, Scandia Glass Art. She additionally still enjoys teaching glass fusing technique classes for art glass suppliers and special glass industry events.
