This new 3-day version (requested by students and offered for the first time in Fall 2026) of Scandia's landscape painting technique class will introduce you to the techniques she herself uses when creating her fused glass landscape paintings. She will cover the importance of choosing your base glass, designing your paintings to convey mood, lighting, seasonal changes, time of day, etc.
You will use Frit, GlassLine paint and Fuse Master enamels. As with most of Scandia’s techniques, her landscape paintings are layered and fired several times to achieve the finished effect.
Class participants will create three pieces: a primary larger painting and two smaller secondary landscapes working from supplied landscape photos, pre-selected background glass choices, and a studio sampler. Displaying options will additionally be reviewed.
No glass cutting will be required using this technique and while helpful, it is not required that you have prior experience in painting. Scandia will walk you through all the steps and explain the overall technique as you work through the first two rounds of your paintings, so you leave with confidence to continue to paint once returning to your own studio.
Please come with your favorite Fine Grade Frit application tools that you are comfortable using or you can use studio tools provided by Stained Glass Stuff.
When: This three-day advanced workshop runs from 9:30 am - 5:00 pm on all three days.
Prerequisite: Adults 18+ only. Closed-toe shoes must be worn at all times in the classroom.
Instructor Information: Scandia Wood began her art glass journey learning stained glass in her childhood and continued working with glass as a hobbyist throughout her life as a creative escape in her spare time. As luck would have it, her passion for art glass would eventually lead her to pursue a full-time career working for the art glass manufacturers themselves. In that capacity, she was able to assist in new product development, customer education, marketing efforts, attend industry trade shows, and teach numerous levels of fusing workshops.
Scandia considers herself to be incredibly fortunate that her longtime dance with art glass continues to evolve. She now focuses on creating her glass artwork through her own business, Scandia Glass Art. She additionally still enjoys teaching glass fusing technique classes for art glass suppliers and special glass industry events.
