Modeling Glass Projects with Lois Manno - Owl Feather & Day of the Dead Skull - Oct 6,7,8, 2026

Lois Manno, Glass Bird Studios founder, will be teaching her unique method of working sculpturally with glass powders and frit. She has spent years developing and creating three-dimensional sculptural glass objects without the need for molds.

By combining powdered glass with a dry binder, water, and a liquid medium, Lois Manno has developed her Modeling Glass™ system that turns messy powder into a manageable material with the consistency of clay.  With this system, students are able to create three dimensional objects without the labor intensive steps involved in pate de verre, as no molds are involved or freezing required.  Similar to clay, the material can be thinned with water into a paste or formed into a shape and dried before firing.  Likewise, the need to coldwork has practically been eliminated as all clean up can be done with sandpaper before the firing! 

In this 2 1/2 day class, Lois will teach her method of mixing Modeling Glass™ and students will learn, step-by-step, how to use the material to make two projects: a realistic Great Horned Owl feather and a Day of the Dead skull painted with enamels.

All pieces will be fired for attendees to pick up when completed or arrangements can be made with us to pay for return shipping. 

When: This 2 1/2 day workshop runs full days (9:30 am-5:00 pm) on Tues, Oct 6th and Wed, Oct 7th and half a day (9:30-1:00) on Thurs Oct 8th. 

Prerequisite:  Adults 18+ only. All students must wear closed-toe shoes in the classroom for safety reasons. If you do not have the proper footwear, you will not be allowed in the classroom.
